Prompt 1: Amnesia

[ You woke up, all your memories having vacated you. Well, that sucks. But hey, no time like the present to go out and figure out things. Maybe someone in your smartphone contacts knows you or what's going on. You open up your smartphone's lock screen and-- hey, that looks relevant. Profile pages! It has your unit name, member names, but no pictures. . .

Well, the rest varies. This one says Likes: Industrial Strength cleaning products, Breakbeat hardcore, Volleyball shorts and Dislikes: Roombas, Electro-industrial, Maid Outfits. The next has a thrilling tale that concludes with the idol mud-wrestling God, though it doesn't mention if they won or not. The third says that the member became an idol because they want to use the television and media attention to get the notice of their long lost sister, and reunite their family. The fourth just has someone's three sizes. The fifth has a detailed astrological profile.

Since no one remembers their names and there's no pictures to match it to, this is actually less helpful than you hoped. And furthermore, the doors aren't opening until you and the rest of the amnesiacs on this unit tell it who is who. Looks like you and the rest of these people have to discuss which of you is more likely to have mud-wrestled god, and who joined because they really want to find their long-lost sister. Or you can just use the tape-measure that was left sitting on the main table of the center room, that might be a quick way to settle at least one of these things. ]

Prompt 2: Memory Regain

[ You saved up your points, performing in Games or Lives or Vids, something or other until you had enough points to put the order in.

You didn't really know how to expect a memory to look like, but as it turns out there's just an alert on your app. Once you click it, a playback starts-- on the screen, and in your mind. You remember something now.

However, in buying the cheap version, that just broadcasted to several other people's phones in the area as well as all screens in the area. Cool. That was definitely what you were trying to do. ]

Prompt 3: Game Time

[ Welcome to the Game Tower. Today's game is a sort of mad fake phantom thief free-for-all. You arrived, were given top hats and cloaks, and the inside floor of the tower had been remodeled to resemble an art museum, with a giant roulette wheel right by the elevator you exited. Below that was a little slot, where today's hologram host explained the wheel would spit out a slip with a goal just for you.

So you have a little slip of paper with a goal on it, and no way of knowing what anyone else's goals are, though you did see the big roulette wheel being spun at the beginning letting you know the some of the possibilities:

Prompts 4: Fanmail

[ Today, trying to take the elevators up from the lobby to access the apartments you and the other units live in just isn't working. Upon the doors being pried open, you found out why quickly: the elevator shaft was jammed up with fan mail, so it couldn't properly descend. Letters cascades out from between the open doors: letters from people who watch you play games, do lives, make vids, and probably all sorts of other things on those omnipresent cameras.

Are you really going to read these? Though right at your feet, a few have spilled from their envelopes. Now you can't help but read those. Here's one in purple glitter pen that says, jesus just come into my home and strangle me with your hair and one that is written with newspaper cut out letters (alarmingly reminiscent of a calling card written by a serial killer) that reads incongruently hello my soft best child ur good and valid and I love you forever plz be ok don't listen 2 the haterz u have done nothing wrong. Oh, and here's one asking if you can wear tighter pants for your next live, they want a better shot of your ass for their shrine. This one just says MARRIED?

Well, it's just as well you have no idea who those were for. Most this fanmail isn't for you. Except for the few that you just read, they're all labeled in envelopes for different people from all the units. Time to read other people's fanmail. Or try and find them and deliver the fanmail. Or just start a big fire in the middle of the lobby, you could do that too. ]

Participants are determined to complete questionable and, at times, compromising acts in order to win the 'game'. Many seem to be enjoying themselves, but there are individuals with elevated temperatures and frequencies, interesting . . .

[Oh, yeah, there's a girl with a recorder on top of that big statue you might be trying to steal. She suddenly jabs a finger in your direction, vaulting off the piece of art without a care.]

You! Can you numerically quantify your desire to win this 'game' and your current level of the feeling called shame? May I equip you with a sensor? Temporarily, of course.

[Her hand is already moving closer with some kind of gadget, uhh.]

Well... Given that this is one of the less violent games, I would say I am quite determined to win it, given that it does not come at the cost of injury to others. If we take a simple one-to-ten scale, I'd put myself at about eight, perhaps eight and a half. Unfortunately, my own experience with games is still fairly limited for me to be able to develop a proper scale of my determination... Unless you mean compared to the amount of effort others are willing to put in, which is hard to measure on its own and perhaps defeats the point of my assigning a rating to my own determination. After all, we have people here who will readily kill and torture others for the sake of achieving their goals, although perhaps not the goal of winning this particular game, which is likely to only be of interest to those who are inclined towards being competitive regardless of reason or those that are in more dire need of points--or perhaps have some other, less obvious motivation.

I am uncertain as to why you would enquire about shame, however... Do you mean in the context of the tasks we are asked to perform here? Many experience what one might call long-lasting shame due to previous events, or perhaps even their future plans. You would need to ask them to separate these different feelings of shame by cause. But assuming you mean this game, I would say mine is at zero at the moment.

And may I ask what manner of a sensor it is? I've little to no objections, but I am quite interested in research.

2. Memory regain

[Hello everyone, it's another episode of "witness someone's fucked up memory randomly"! Satsuki has already taken a couple that have given her the impression that she was a stricter person than what she woke up as, and the urge to explore more is rising... though not without apprehension.

Which turns out to be warranted.

On the screen of your phone, or whatever other device you may be watching, a scene plays out. A tall woman with white hair (decorated somehow with rainbows) and wearing a long white dress is speaking, addressing a delinquent-looking girl in an empty stadium...

...until a blade stabs through her chest.

"What are you playing at, Satsuki?"

"The time for speeches is over, Director."

There's genuine fury in Satsuki's voice, in her growl of effort as she drives the blade deeper in, and then raises the woman up on it before flinging her onto a giant cross, impaling her through the chest and hands.

A shower of blood falls as Satsuki straightens up, breathing heavily.

"As of this moment, Satsuki Kiryuin and the Honnouji Academy are in rebellion against you!"

The memory cuts off there, leaving the real - as it were - Satsuki staring at her phone in disbelief, certain muscles of her face set firmly. Well. That was obviously not what she was expecting.

3. Game time

[When Satsuki plays, she plays to win. Which is why if you happen to pass her during the game - seemingly uninterested in you, on her way to some other destination, - once you're past each other she'll spin around, trying to aim a kick at your shins to scythe you over. Easier to steal from someone you incapacitated first!]

[ooc | as a heads up: the Rika here has an older appearance from Gou - while I will not be posting any Gou-specific spoilers here (there will, however, be OG series spoilers, which I will mark) - I just wanted to give everyone a heads up on that front before anyone made any assumptions regarding her height/size/etc.]

[For some reason, waking up completely frazzled feels...

...well, it's awfully, strangely, horrendously familiar to this girl, even if she can't exactly place why there seems to be a sense of that. She seems to be rather unbothered as she puruses the cellphone, trying to look through all of them and even musing aloud to herself.]

"Mud-wrestled a god"...? Why would anyone want to do that?

[It's only then that she looks up from her phone and towards the direction of someone else--]

Have you ever thought about it before?

[At some point (get it, points) she's earned enough to finally get her first memory. Of course, she didn't know what she should expect, given that there doesn't seem to be any faces that seem to recognize her.

So it's all in the cards, she supposes.

What she ends up getting, however, broadcasted for all to see...

It's a younger version of herself, eleven at best.

She's in a rather traditional, Japanese estate - all wooden floors, looking rather sickly and wobbly as she looks at the green haired girl rather unfocused.

"Ha, ha! Look at you!! Did you really think you could defeat me? Think again!!!"

Those are the words that mock the smaller version of herself, even as she uses the wall to steady herself as she moves. There's uncomfortable groans and coughs as she calls out a name: "Hanyuuu... Hanyuuu..." before the other girl laughs even more, pleasantly amused.

"Ahahaha! This is funny, so funny. But please don't throw up here, go to the bathroom, okay? Hee hee hee! I'm going to enjoy how long it'll take for you to die. Oh, but that means I can't torture you later, huh? I've been planning to use that nail table on you. So either you choke on your own vomit and die, or I pound nails on your ten fingers. Hmm, I wonder which it will be... Okay, I know. Let's move to the underground shrine storage. I'll put you to sleep so I can move you, okay? Hee hee hee!!"

The green haired teen walks closer, holding a stun gun which is already making popping sounds. Seeing the sparks, her younger self moves to grab a kitchen knife.

"Oh, are you still trying to fight? Hee hee hee! That makes things more fun. I have so much I want to ask you. I would suggest you don't fight. Well, actually, even if you don't fight back, you'll go through the same torture anyway, hee hee hee!"

The laughter is almost nauseating.

"Sorry," her younger self apologizes in a way that sounds bitter, and nothing like the child one might expect her to be, much less look like, "but I refuse your invitation, you torture maniac."

"Compared to what the three families have done, this is nothing. Thank you for acknowledging me though. I should be proud of myself, huh? So? Are you seriously thinking about fighting back with a knife in that condition? You can't even stand straight..."

"You're right. This is all I can do. Before you catch me and torture me, I'm going to take care of myself."

"Take care of yourself? Huh, go right ahead!"

Suddenly, the younger version of herself turns around - she places the handle of the knife on the wall and holds it in place, saying her last few words --

"Good bye, torture maniac. I won't give you the satisfaction of killing me."

-- before throwing herself onto the knife on the wall.

And the memory ends there. Of course, the much older version of that girl in the memory is around, having seen that, and for some reason... her expression doesn't seem to be one of panic. Instead, her gaze is just simply empty. But that doesn't mean that she is impossible to speak to.]

And given that it's baby's first fanmail, she doesn't know what to expect... so when she sees the letters spilled at her feet, she just can't help herself.]

Do people really expect idols to marry? Some of these other ones, too, are a little worrying... I do hope mine aren't as bad as some of these...

They just managed to spill and find her. Perhaps she'll even accidentally find one of yours...?]

[ Satoko can't help but be horrified at what she saw.

It's only natural, isn't it? That was... awful, in every sense of the word. She feels a little like she's going to be sick.

What's scary is that ever since seeing Rika, Satoko has had a weird feeling in her gut. A sensation of anger that doesn't belong... along with sorrow, too. It makes her wonder if she knew Rika somehow, before all this. Because there has to have been a before, right? But of course, whenever she tries to recall anything, her memory comes up blank.

If this is what Rika's life has been like, though... then what about Satoko's?

She can't just see that and say nothing, though. It seems it's finally time to talk to this mysterious girl. After taking a moment to... collect herself, Satoko approaches. ]

That was... quite awful, wasn't it? ...Are you alright?

Satoko Houjou | Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni

[ ooc: satoko is 15-16 here, taken from her older self in higurashi gou! ]

[ At first, Satoko panics. She's sure she's been kidnapped, or that something terrible is about to happen, though what, she doesn't know. It takes her a while to realize that it's not just the room she doesn't recognize - she doesn't remember anything at all. Her name, her past... it's all gone, and when she tries to grasp her memories, they quickly fade away like sand running through her fingers.

It certainly doesn't help her feel any less afraid.

But eventually, Satoko manages to calm herself down. All she can do is read the phone she seems to have, and figure out a bit more about where she is and what's going on... huh. So she's an idol?

Satoko isn't sure how to feel about that.

After reading through a few more of the stories, though, Satoko sighs. Some of these profiles are really quite absurd. But... ]

This one is nice, isn't it? [ She smiles, turning to you. ] It's quite sweet. I do hope they managed to find their sister.

Here, I got your luggage ready too! We can't just borrow toothbrushes and towels from Mion-san, you know?

[ Satoko watches herself on the screen - her child self, to be exact. She's chiding an unfamiliar girl with long blue hair, who appears to be stunned, and there's another unfamiliar man standing next to her. ]

Besides, we can't let some strange man stay in a messy room either! This is why I always tell you to tidy things up around here!

[ Then, the younger Satoko's expression changes, softening a little. It seems like she's in disbelief about something, or at least that's the impression that the real Satoko gets. ]

So it wasn't just a storyline for some comic, was it?

Meep... [ The other girl makes a strange noise, looking guilty, her eyes falling to the floor. How cute. ]

You know, that's what I don't like about you, Rika. Have I ever doubted you before? I always thought that I was your best friend, that you would count on me before anyone else.

[ ...And that's where the memory ends. It's a short memory - uneventful, in fact, but it's something. And to be honest... Satoko is kind of relieved. After all the other memories she's seen broadcast across the network so far, some of them have been downright horrible. So she's glad to have received somewhat of a normal memory, even if it doesn't tell her much.

So this Rika was her best friend, was she? And it seems that she'd kept a secret from Satoko, one that Satoko was upset that she didn't share. ...Satoko wonders how they got along... were they good friends? What kind of a person was this Rika? It seemed they lived together - could they be siblings, too? They didn't look similar at all in the video, but... ]

It's a shame that she couldn't have said my name, though.

If it was a physical object, it would've been easier. She's quite sure that she could've pulled it off, but... getting somebody to reveal a secret - that sounds remarkably more difficult. Does it count as "stolen" if she simply asks them for a secret outright? Or does she have to get them to bring it up without letting on what she wants?

...Satoko sighs. ]

This seems like quite a pain...

[ you are (surely) minding your own business playing the game when you happen to step on juuust the wrong spot, apparently. a trap springs into motion, a length of rope coiling around your ankle to string you up from a light fixture in the ceiling, like something straight out of an anime.

the mastermind steps out of the shadows, looking quite pleased with herself... though on the off-chance you did escape the trap, it's entirely possible she's too busy gloating to have noticed yet. ]

Ohohoho! Like a moth to the flame, as they say.

[ There is a young woman in her late teens, dark hair spilling over her shoulders and a giant hammer slung over her shoulder (casually held with one hand) as she holds up a slip of paper with the other, wrinkling her nose with the sort of distaste one might expect from a rather unpleasant smell directly beneath one's nose. ]

This is all rather tasteless, isn't it?

[ She hefts the giant hammer off her shoulder and points at you with it. ]

Prompt 4 - Fanmail

[ It's a veritable ocean of fanmail and for a moment, the young woman can't help but gawk awkwardly from her spot in the elevator. She gingerly wades through the letters, stepping on at least one or two with a pair of high heels that seem like they could kill a man without much effort. At great length, she picks one up between her fingers, staring at the name in glittery pink writing on the envelope - hers, you can only imagine by the disdainful look she's giving this. ]

Am I meant to be responding to these?

[ She sounds incredulous. ]
